Hamas delegation to visit Egypt for further Gaza ceasefire talks
BEIRUT (AP) — Hamas said Thursday that it was sending a delegation to Egypt forfurther cease-fire talks, in a new sign of progress in attempts by international mediators to hammer out an agreement between Israel and the militant group to end the war in Gaza.
After months of stop-and-start negotiations, the cease-fire efforts appear to have reached a critical stage, with Egyptian and American mediators reporting signs of compromise in recent days.
Hit-and-run crash spills ice cream on PA Turnpike; roadway closed for over 6 hours
Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — State police say a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in Somerset Township, was closed for over 6 hours early Wednesday morning following a hit-and-run crash involving a truck hauling ice cream.
Police say the crash occurred just before 1 a.m. near the 110.6 mile marker, according to the crash report.
Investigators say a flatbed tractor-trailer was traveling in the right-hand lane and was attempting to pass the truck hauling ice cream when it crossed into the left lane and struck the other truck.
John Rooney, son of Steelers founder Art Rooney, passes away at age 83
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — John Rooney, the youngest son of late Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr., has reportedly passed away at age 83.
Rooney was a Pittsburgh native and a former member of the Steelers' Board of Directors.
He and his four brothers each formerly shared a minority stake in the team.
Mr. Rooney's cause of death has not been made public.

Parents, Westmont school officials continue to clash over safety
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Parents in the Westmont Hilltop School District have expressed multiple concerns about the lack of safety in the school district.

Cambria County library selling books for $1
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Cambria County library is holding a book sale this week.
Books will be available for purchase Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the first-floor community room.
The book sale allows the library to make room for new additions and keep its collection up to date.
Library leaders say the sale also benefits the community.
"For our customers who are coming in and shopping, you can really build your home collection and have a lot of things,” says library Director Ashley Flynn.
Garth Brooks concert set to break attendance record at Heinz Field
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Organizers say a Garth Brooks concert in May will be the largest event ever to be held at Heinz Field.
Officials say the concert, scheduled for May 18, is set to break the attendance record for the Pittsburgh Stadium after 72,887 tickets were sold.
According to a release, the previous record was set Sept. 10, 2016, with 69,983 tickets for the University of Pittsburgh versus Penn State University football game.

PA woman poisoned boyfriend's 1-year-old daughter
Authorities with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General have announced charges against a Lawrence County woman following an investigation into the death of a 1-year-old girl.
Officials say Aleisia Owens, 20, was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal homicide and abuse related offenses in connection to the poisoning death of her boyfriend's daughter in June.
The details of this case are heartbreaking. It is hard to fathom someone taking deliberate steps to harm a completely helpless child, then mislead investigators about what happened,” said Attorney General Michelle Henry.
Somerset County hiring "vital" 911 dispatchers, advertising on social media
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Dispatchers answer the call when someone dials 911 -- in need of life saving help -- sometimes even providing life saving instructions before the ambulance arrives.
They juggle listening to the radio, entering caller information, and coordinating with first responders: mastering multi-tasking to keep their communities safe and healthy.
While Somerset County has 16 full-time and five part-time dispatchers -- they're still in need of five more -- according to Joel Landis, Director of Emergency Services.
