According to a release from the Indiana County District Attorney's office, an inmate at SCI Pine Grove has been convicted of assaulting a corrections officer.

Authorities say Jason Hinshaw was found guilty of felony aggravated assault for an incident that occurred on Feb. 6, 2020.

Investigators say on the day of the incident, Hinshaw was found to be in possession of an electronic tablet and made threats against the corrections officer when confronted.

Authorities say when officers attempted to restrain him, Hinshaw kicked one of the COs in the back.

“When our Courts find it necessary that a defendant be imprisoned for community protection, it is our Corrections Officers who diligently serve to provide that community protection. They work each and every day of the year with dangerous individuals in a difficult environment. It is vitality important that our criminal justice system stand up for these Officers when an inmate assaults them” said Indiana County DA Bob Manzi.

Authorities say Hinshaw was sentenced to serve 15 months to seven years at a State Correctional Facility for the assault.
