The Greater Johnstown School District and community is remembering a teenager who tragically passed away following a drowning accident at a local hotel pool.

According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, 18-year-old Tahjmir Seeney was pronounced dead Tuesday morning in the Intensive Care Unit at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

Officials say the accident happened Sunday, just before noon, at the Holiday Inn in downtown Johnstown.

Lees says Seeney's out-of-town family members were staying at the Holiday Inn when Seeney was found at the bottom of the hotel's swimming pool.

He says Seeney's family performed CPR and called 911 at which point he was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where he later died.

Lees says an autopsy will be performed later this week.

He says Seeney recently graduated from Greater Johnstown High School.

In response to Seeney's tragic death, the Greater Johnstown School District released the following statement.

Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Tahjmir. He was taken far too soon. He was a big personality and a great young man who had a bright future. He was a welder and was to start his career yesterday. At this time we respect the privacy of his family. Our school district has been and will continue to be there with our support during this very difficult time. We ask our community to keep us in your prayers.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support Seeney's family.
