Beloved teacher who made 'profound impact' in the community killed in wrong-way crash
WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) — A longtime teacher was killed in a triple-fatal crash in Ohio leaving many with heavy hearts. Nicole Pelton taught at Ross Middle School for 22 years, WKRC learned from the school district Pelton worked for. Nicole, Patrick Pelton and Gregory Meyer were killed in crash in West Chester on Sunday. Meyer was reportedly driving the wrong way at the time of the crash. Police received multiple 911 calls about a speeding SUV.
Bloomsburg University eliminates fraternities, sororities
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's Bloomsburg University is doing away with Greek life, effective immediately. The state-owned university says it has severed ties with all 16 of its fraternities and sororities, both local and national. Bloomsburg announced the decision on Thursday in a two-sentence email to the university community.
Bloomsburg officials aren't saying why they're disbanding the Greek life system, but the move comes after years of problems at the school's fraternities and sororities, including allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual assault.
Mother among 2 arrested after 12-year-old girl escapes trafficking attempt
FON DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WLUK) — Two people are in custody, including the victim's mother, after a young girl allegedly escaped a child trafficking situation in Wisconsin. Shortly before 12:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the town of Oakfield for a sexual assault complaint.
Authorities say the caller reported a 12-year-old girl had shown up at his door asking for help.
Pens return home, host Capitals in Valentines Day matchup

Texas airline worker fatally 'ingested' into jet engine
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WOAI) — An investigation is underway after an airline worker in Texas was fatally "ingested" into a jet engine.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled on Monday that the worker's death was ruled a suicide. The medical examiner's office said the doctor "saw signs that pointed to suicide."
The ground crew member was on the runway at San Antonio International Airport Friday when it happened.

University in Virginia cuts 17 programs, eliminates 40 staff member positions
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The University of Lynchburg announced Thursday it is taking dramatic steps at the school as they enter a new era.
But for some prospective students and current staff, those changes could be detrimental; 17 programs at the school are being cut, and 40 staff members' positions have been "reduced." During the next three years, the school said another 40 faculty members will be headed out the door for good as well.

Cambria County, PA — A family is heartbroken and a judge is furious following the preliminary hearing for Michael Lyles Jr. He is accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Candace Mervin in a Hornerstown home.
The preliminary hearing for Lyles took place at the Cambria county central park complex. He is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and child endangerment.
The defendant was heard by judge Kevin Price, in Johnstown.

Operation April Showers nets 9 accused dealers in Bedford County drug bust
BEDFORD – Arrest warrants were served Tuesday on nine accused drug dealers during an early-morning raid in Bedford County.
The Bedford County Drug Task Force, as well as the Pennsylvania State Police, conducted the raid beginning at 7 a.m.
The defendants were arraigned throughout the morning at the office of Magisterial District Judge Kathy Calhoun.
“Operation April Showers” culminated a 12-month drug task force investigation into local drug-trafficking operations that began at the conclusion of “Operation Shamrock Shackles” in March 2016, during which 21 suspected drug dealers were apprehended.
