Williamsport man charged with sexually abusing a child at a homeless shelter
WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING CO, (WOLF) — A man is facing charges of child sex crimes after an alleged assault at a city homeless shelter.
The Williamsport Bureau of Police says that officers responded to the Family Promise Shelter in the 630 block of Hepburn Street on April 6th around 7:30 AM after receiving reports of a possible sexual assault of a child. Police reviewed surveillance video that showed Leo Johnny Ortega, 28, engaging in inappropriate contact with an 8-year-old boy.
Accused Elk County murderer testifies stabbing was justified
RIDGWAY, Pa. — A trial began Wednesday for an Elk County man accused of stabbing and killing another last year.
Harvey Detterline III, 37, of Byrnedale, is accused of killing 29-year-old Richard Hicks after locking him out of an apartment in Johnsonburg Aug. 16.
In opening statements, the prosecution said this case is not factually complicated.
Assistant District Attorney Tom Coppolo said the description of the events leading up to the homicide will prove Detterline did not act in self-defense.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CITC) — A coalition of California lawmakers is seeking to ban school district policies requiring teachers to notify parents of their children's gender identity.
Assemblymember Chris Ward, D-San Diego, along with the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus, introduced the Support Academic Futures and Educators for Today’s Youth Act (SAFETY Act) Wednesday. The legislation, if passed, would prohibit school districts from implementing "forced outing policies," as well as prevent districts from retaliating against staff who refuse to share a student's gender identity with their parents.

Producer and engineer Steve Albini, who recorded Nirvana and the Pixies, dead at 61
CHICAGO (TND) — Steve Albini, the idiosyncratic producer and engineer who recorded era-defining alternative 90s rock albums by the likes of Nirvana, the Pixies, and P.J. Harvey, has died. He was 61 years old.
Albini, who also performed as a punk rock musician in the noise and post-punk bands Big Black, which he fronted, and Shellac, died of a heart attack, the staff of his recording studio, Electric Audio, confirmed to Pitchfork.
Ashville man sentenced to decades behind bars in federal child abuse case
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Federal authorities say a Cambria County man has been sentenced to decades behind bars after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a young child.
Officials with the Department of Justice say 41-year-old Michael Sollenberger, of Ashville, will serve at least 36 years in prison after entering a guilty plea, last summer, to three counts, including the production and possession of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.
Man purchases, designs custom caskets for victims of Uvalde school shooting
Uvalde, TX (CNN) — A family-run company has donated 19 custom caskets for the victims of the Uvalde school shooting.
The caskets came from Trey Ganem of Soulshine Industries, based in Edina, Texas.
Hanem says he was contacted by the Texas Funeral Directors Association the day of the shooting.
He said he worked tirelessly with his 15-year-old son to get them assembled, designed and delivered in time for the funerals.
NBA guard Josh Giddey being investigated for alleged relationship with underage girl
