Idlewild & SoakZone amusement park opens to public

Director of Marketing Jeff Croushore said they began letting season pass holders in the park earlier this week, but today, the general public was allowed in. "Our season usually begins mid-May, but of course with COVID-19, that has set us back quite a number of weeks,” Croushore said. He says visiting Idlewild & SoakZone this year will be different than any other.

No swimming at Presque Isle beach because of elevated E. coli count

ERIE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A heads-up if you're heading to Lake Erie for swimming: One of the beaches at Presque Isle State Park has restricted swimming because of an elevated count of Escherichia coli bacteria, according to the Erie County Department of Health. As of Monday, no swimming is allowed at Beach 8 until testing confirms E. coli has dropped to safe levels. Officials say recreational activities like sunbathing and volleyball are still allowed.

US Foods to 'transfer operations' from Altoona facility, approx. 65 jobs to be eliminated

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — US Foods announced plans to "transfer operations" from its Altoona warehouse, located along Shuma Drive, in September, resulting in 65 positions being eliminated. Director of Media Relations Sara Matheu said that the company will be moving some of the Altoona operations to other US Foods' facilities, including those in Allentown and Greensburg. The Altoona location will still be used as a shuttle yard, however, with 125 drivers and sales staff still employed.

'Give me all the money!' Police arrest man accused of attempting to rob Blair Co. Sheetz

2ND UPDATE |Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Charges have been filed against an Altoona man who attempted to rob the Frankstown Road Sheetz in Blair County Thursday. Online court dockets show that James Clemens, 44, was arraigned Friday and is currently being held at the Blair County Prison after being unable to post bail. Court dockets show Clemens has been charged with one felony count of robbery with threat of immediate serious injury, one felony count of aggravated assault with attempt to cause serious bodily injury, one felony count of aggravated assault with attempt to cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon, one count of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize, one count of possession of an instrument of crime with intent and one count of simple assault.

Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads stolen en route to Pittsburgh; giveaway postponed

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jaromir Jagr is missing. Well, the bobbleheads of the former NHL star are anyway. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Thursday that a shipment carrying bobbleheads of the franchise icon was stolen after arriving in California. The team had intended to give the bobbleheads away to fans during Thursday night's home game against the San Jose Sharks. Instead, the club will give fans a voucher that will allow them to pick up the item at a later date.

Judge denies bid to limit Trump's public statements in classified documents case

WASHINGTON (AP) — The judge overseeing Donald Trump's classified documents case in Florida on Tuesday denied prosecutors' request to bar the former president from making public statements that could endanger law enforcement agents participating in the prosecution. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon said in her order that prosecutors on special counsel Jack Smith's team didn't give defense lawyers adequate time to discuss the request before it was filed Friday evening. She denied the request without prejudice, meaning prosecutors could file it again.
