PIAA baseball and softball playoffs underwayJOHNSTOWN -- The PIAA state baseball and softball tournaments both kicked-off Monday. On the local circuit, plenty of teams were in action. In softball, Meyersdale defeated Williamsburg in a PIAA-A first round game. Also in PIAA-A play, DuBois Central rallied.
Penn State star LB Abdul Carter accused of assaulting tow truck driver
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in Centre County say Penn State's star linebacker Abdul Carter is facing charges after he was accused of assaulting a tow truck driver last month.
According to the affidavit, State College police were dispatched on March 16th for reports of an assault near an apartment complex along Squirrel Drive.
Police say the caller told 911 that her boyfriend was being assaulted by an unknown male, who was later identified as Carter.

Quarantine on 52 Pennsylvania counties to prevent spotted lantern fly spread
52 counties across the state of Pennsylvania — including all of the counties in our coverage area — are quarantining spotted lantern flies.
"In those counties there are confirmed population of spotted lantern fly which is a destructive, invasive insect that threatens agriculture and Pennsylvania way of life,” said Shannon Powers, the Press Secretary for the PA Dept. of Agriculture.
All of this in efforts to kill off and prevent these insects from spreading even more throughout the commonwealth.

Monday’s council meeting was filled with people in support of the Brewery, Music Mart and the rest of the local businesses at risk.
The borough council heard from residents and decided to vote again on the resolution.
