'Heartbroken' officials announce death of baby elephant Tsuni who lived in Somerset County
The Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium announced Thursday that it's two-year-old elephant calf, Tsuni, has passed away after a sudden and brief battle with elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV), according to a press release.
In a statement, the zoo stated that EEHV in Tsuni, who resided at the International Conservation Center in Fairhope with her herd, was detected through routine blood tests February 8, although the calf displayed no visible clinical signs.
Former "The Voice" contestant is performing in Altoona this weekend
ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC). — Jimmy Mowery, a former contestant on NBC’s "The Voice," is performing in Altoona this weekend.
On Saturday, the Altoona native is hitting the stage at the Jaffa Shrine Center, alongside "America’s Got Talent" finalist, and plane crash survivor, Kechi Okwuchi.

Injured Philipsburg-Osceola forfeits the remainder of football season
PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Philipsburg-Osceola’s football season has come to a premature end, the school’s athletic director confirmed Monday.
Athletic Director Bob Mann told 6 News that the team has suffered too many injuries for it to continue; it's down to 21 players after starting with 38.
Mann said eight of the 21 players able to play are freshman who haven’t ever played varsity.
The Mountaineers (1-7) were scheduled to play Clearfield on Friday followed by Penns Valley on Oct.
More charges filed against Centre Co. journalist after he was accused of having inappropriate contac
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say more charges have been filed against a local journalist who was previously accused of having sexual communications with an FBI agent who was posing as a teenage girl.
Police say following the initial arrest of Christopher Morelli, in mid-December, investigators were contacted by a female who claimed that she was victimized by Morelli in 2011, when she was 14 years old.
Opossum found hanging from tree in Armstrong County; authorities investigating illegal killing of an
BETHEL TOWNSHIP, PA. (WJAC) — Authorities with the Pennsylvania Game Commission say they are investigating the illegal killing of a Virginia opossum, in Armstrong County, after the animal was reportedly found hanging from a tree with a "noose" around its neck.
Investigators say the animal was found along Pine Hollow Road, in Ford City, Bethel Township, on Friday, Dec. 29.
The state game warden is investigating the incident, according to aFacebook post.
Bond set for former Titans scout accused of poisoning pregnant girlfriend
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A bond has been set at $2,500,000 for the former Titans scout accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend.
Blaise Taylor, 27, was arrested in Utah on two counts of first-degree murder after the poisoning death of his girlfriend Jade Benning and her 5-month-old fetus.
Earlier this month, Taylor made his first court appearance via video conference. The district attorney's office is pursuing life in prison without parole for Taylor under accused circumstances that the defendant knew the victim was pregnant, committed the murder knowingly and committed the murder against a person less than 12 years old.
Eight Pittsburgh Steelers named to Pro Bowl
NEW YORK -- Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell and Ben Roethlisberger are among a Pro Bowl-high eight Pittsburgh Steelers selected for the all-star game.
Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva, Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro are also Pro Bowl selections.
Just one Steelers' defensive player made the squad, linebacker Ryan Shazier, who is out for the season after spinal surgery.
Kicker Chris Boswell rounded out Pittsburgh's selections.
The Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints each placed six players in the game, to be played Jan.
Flooding affects parts of Elk County
JOHNSONBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — It's been a wet week in the region.
In Johnsonburg, flooding hit portions of the area, including Center Street, where water was pumped out of basements.
There's currently a boil-water advisory for the west end of the borough.

Kalen DeBoer leaving University of Washington to replace Nick Saban as Alabama head coach
SEATTLE (KOMO) — University of Washington football coach Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to the national championship game in his second season, told UW officials Friday he was leaving to replace Nick Saban at Alabama.
ESPN first reported that DeBoer was negotiating with Alabama on Friday. ESPN's Pete Thamel and The Associated Press both reported that new Washington athletic director Troy Dannen made an aggressive pitch to keep DeBoer, 49, who inherited a 4-8 Washington team and guided them to an 11-2 ledger in 2022 and a 14-1 record this past fall.
UNC frats receive outpouring of support for defending US flag: 'Kudos to those guys'
WASHINGTON (TND) — Fraternities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are receiving an outpouring of support for a patriotic act performed by some of their members.
Images and videos circulating social media this week depicted members of the school’s Pi Kappa Phi, Alpha Epsilon Pi and other fraternities holding up the U.S. flag. The image was taken during a campus protest in which demonstrators attempted to raise a Palestinian flag in its place, according to freelance journalist Bryan Anderson.
